The head of Iran’s Information Technology Organization said about Iran’s actions in the field of IPv6: So far, 20% of Iran’s end users have migrated to IPv6, and government and organizational networks are obtaining the necessary permits to transition to IPv6, and measures have also been taken to reserve IPv6 by Iran
According to Iran digital economy annotation, the IP address or Internet Protocol Address or the so-called general IP is an identifier that is given to any device connected to the Internet or a network that uses the Internet Protocol. This identifier is completely unique and the protocol knows by it which computer the data or requests will be sent to or received from; The use of an IP address is similar to that of an email address. If we do not have a person’s email address, we cannot send him an email; This is also the case with Internet Protocol.
IP version 6 (IPv6) is the latest version of the Internet protocol and is very different from the common version 4 (IPv4); In version 6, the length of the addresses is 128 bits and it supports a very wide range, and there have been several attempts at the international level during the past years in the field of transition to IPv6.
In fact, IPv4 is a platform for Internet addresses that countries in the world use, but the lack of this address has caused problems for public and private companies in countries, and to solve it, a new version called IPv6 has been implemented or is being implemented in most countries of the world. Is.
Therefore, in order to take advantage of the benefits of IPV6, which is defined as a new Internet protocol, it is necessary to use mechanisms and methods known as transition or migration. Based on this, by using these mechanisms, it is possible to migrate from the current Internet protocol i.e. IPV4 to the new IPV6 protocol.
Increasing the addressing space, automatic configuration, higher security, character routing, ease of multiple communication and strong support for multi-part facilities are among the advantages of the addressing system version 6, which is mentioned in the strategic document of transition to this system.
In this regard, the most important measures taken in the field of Internet resource management were explained and the need to transition from IPv4 to IPv6 was recently discussed at the “Internet Resource Management, Transition to IPv6” conference. In this conference, Mohammad Khansari, the head of Iran’s Information Technology Organization, emphasized that Internet resources are distributed unfairly in the world and the management of Internet resources is actually a part of Internet management. America is located and in other words, there are four IPv4 for every American. But in Iran, per capita of IPv4 addresses is 0.25 and we rank 34th in the world in terms of IPv4 addresses allocation.
According to him, there are more than 12 million IP addresses in the country, which constitutes 0.33% of the total share of IPv4 in the world, while the lack of a sufficient number of IPv4 causes many problems in terms of network development and the activities of operators and It creates businesses.
He considered the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 as a necessity and stated about Iran’s actions in this regard: 20% of Iran’s end users have migrated to IPv6 so far, and government and organizational networks are in the process of obtaining the necessary permits to transition to IPv6. Also, measures have been taken regarding the reservation of IPv6 by Iran. So that now Iran ranks 23rd in the world from the point of view of IPv6 reservation.
But considering Iran’s population size and about one percent of the world’s population in our country, a larger share should have been allocated to Iran.
In addition, Ali Asghar Ansari, Deputy Minister for Planning and Strategic Supervision, who many years ago was responsible for the migration to IPv6 due to holding the post of Deputy National Information Network in the Information Technology Organization of Iran, stated: There are assignments in the National Information Network Architecture Document. Part of which emphasizes the use of IPv6 in all layers and dedicated networks, and this issue creates a requirement to migrate from IPv4 to IPv6 for all stakeholders.
Regarding the importance of migration to IPv6, the Deputy Minister of Communications pointed out the significant shortage of version 4 addresses in Iran and the world, and stating that the only way to compensate for this shortage is to migrate to the new version, he said: migration to IPv6, the possibility of providing value services It provides the location-based addition, which is the undeniable need of today’s users, and on the other hand, by increasing the addressing space, various services can be provided to people according to the type of use, and the most up-to-date of these services can be in the field of intelligence and Internet of Things. be useful and effective.
In conclusion, he asked the operators, LIR activists and businesses in the field to implement the guidelines, policies and monitoring strategies prepared by the Information Technology Organization of Iran with the aim of migrating from IPv4 to IPv6 in order to provide more advanced and better services.
In this event, Behrouz Abbaszadeh – Deputy General Directorate of Integrated Management of the National Information Network, presented a report on challenges and opportunities in the implementation of IPv6, and then Latif Ladid, the head of IPv6-Prom, participated in a video conference.
The final part of this event was also dedicated to a round table which was held in the form of questions and answers and with the presence of the head of the domain registration of the research institute of basic knowledge and the expert from the research institute of information and communication technology.
