Recent News of Behnama Hacking Disputed by Fanap in Their Software
According to IDEA, in recent days, claims have been made by some users on social media and foreign media about hacking and accessing a portion of the information of one of Fanap’s subsidiary software products. Fanap considers these allegations to be baseless, without technical expertise, and intended to provoke public opinion. Fanap’s public relations department has rejected this matter in a statement, which you can read below.
Fanap has provided the following explanations to clarify the matter: “The claim made regarding a hacker attack on the ‘Behnama’ software is not true, and only a part of the software’s logs and Docker files was temporarily accessible by connecting to the internet. These data are highly unimportant and contain general specifications of the software; there was no user information in these files. ‘Behnama’ is a software product for visual monitoring in administrative offices, shops, complexes, etc., and employee attendance time registration or access to internal sections of small and medium-sized organizations. It is designed to provide an alternative to old methods of attendance registration with cards or fingerprint-based software, only for corporate use. This software is only capable of recognizing faces that have previously been registered with the device (similar to what exists in fingerprint registration devices).”
The statement continues: “Therefore, these systems do not have the capability to identify other faces, and the claim of using this product for public identity detection is pure falsehood. It should be noted that the license plate recognition software is designed for traffic and parking purposes, and technically, there is no other use for it. Currently, Fanap does not provide such a service to any organization.”
Fanap further states: “It appears that there has been a misleading and unprofessional trend in recent years, using deceptive and unfair materials to manipulate the audience and guide public opinion in the wrong direction, aiming to harm independent Iranian businesses as well as create discouragement and hopelessness among the country’s youth. Undoubtedly, to prevent similar abuses in the media and social networks, independent media organizations can play a crucial role in public awareness by verifying the accuracy and truthfulness of news and allegations. Fanap is also ready to engage and clarify its cooperation with the media and active stakeholders in the field of information technology and communication in the country. Fanap emphasizes the importance of respecting citizens’ rights and strongly rejects any claims regarding the use of the above products for public surveillance or violation of privacy.
