The head of the Technology Exchange and Transfer Network of the D8 Group announced a $30 million investment contract in technology between Muslim countries in the fields of ICT, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and energy.
According to IDEA, Milad Sadrkhanlou, the head of the Technology Commercialization Development Center at Pardis Technology Park, made the announcement during the 10th anniversary event of the Technology Exchange and Transfer Network of D8, held today at Pardis Technology Park. He stated, “Over the past 10 years, this network has endeavored to achieve its main goal, which is the development of technological cooperation among the 8 Muslim countries.”
He emphasized that these collaborations should contribute to the economic development of countries, enhancing economic levels and welfare. He further added, “Over the past 10 years, we have worked from the beginning to establish various collaborations between countries. Through the activities of this network, we have managed to involve other Muslim countries in its projects and initiatives.”
According to Sadrkhanlou, countries such as Iraq, the UAE, Oman, and India have initiated significant collaborations with this network, particularly with Iran. He explained, “Recently, during the Step Technology and Trade Summit in Isfahan, an agreement was reached between an Iranian company and an Indian Muslim entity, allowing Iran to export its medical equipment products (infant cardiac diagnostic equipment) to India. These achievements are the results of the D8 event.”
D8 Technology, what are the objectives of D8 technology activities?
The head of the Technology Commercialization Development Center at Pardis Technology Park clarified that over the past 10 years, Iran has laid the foundation for technology investment. He described the ongoing event as an attempt to invite technology investors, particularly those focused on technology, and said, “This event has been held five times so far, and in the current fifth round, we are witnessing a $30 million technology investment contract between countries in the fields of ICT, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and energy. We are looking forward to hosting countries such as Malaysia, Pakistan, and Nigeria in the coming years. In 2024, the event will be held in Malaysia, in 2025 in Nigeria, and in 2026 in Pakistan.”
A proposal has been made to include other non-Muslim countries such as Russia and China as members of D8. Sadrkhanlou said, “This proposal has been recently received, and it is under consideration at the D8 Technology Exchange Network Secretariat. Representatives from China and Russia have attended D8 events as guest observers, but we hope to officially involve them in projects through further negotiations.”
It is planned to establish an international specialized technology investment fund by Iran among the D8 countries. Regarding this, Sadrkhanlou said, “We have been working on this plan for more than a year, and the charter and guidelines have been drafted and sent to other countries for review. In the last session with representatives of the countries, it was agreed to give all countries a month to review the documents with their respective financial institutions, and after that, we will enter the implementation phase.”
Sadrkhanlou emphasized that participation in this project is not mandatory, and member countries can choose to collaborate voluntarily. He stated, “This fund will be an important financial resource for technology stakeholders who wish to operate internationally.
