In an announcement, the Infrastructure Communications Company attributed the recent internet disruption to ‘network capacity upgrade and expansion.’
According to IDEA, early this morning (September 11), the NetBlocks account on the X app reported a severe internet disruption in Iran. This disruption had also occurred the previous day. Now, the Infrastructure Communications Company has issued a statement stating that this disruption is due to the upgrade and expansion of the country’s infrastructure network.
The Infrastructure Communications Company’s announcement states:
‘In order to upgrade and expand the network capacity of the infrastructure communications network, and based on the previous needs assessment and designs, the necessary equipment has been procured, and the process of replacing and upgrading equipment has started in the past few days. For this purpose, following the standard and approved process, changes are made during low-traffic hours, mostly in the early morning hours, in the form of technical downtime.’
Mohammad Mozafari, the technical director of the Green Web Company, wrote on the X app: ‘This disruption is related to a pre-planned program regarding the modification of the data center’s power system in the infrastructure.’
The Infrastructure Communications Company has also mentioned this issue in its announcement and stated: ‘It is obvious that for the preparedness of telecommunications operators and other stakeholders and traffic management via alternative routes during the downtime hours, necessary communication is carried out with operators and stakeholders before commencing the operational activities.’
Infrastructure has announced that the network upgrade process will continue in the coming days: ‘The downtime of the Infrastructure Communications Network was carried out in the early morning hours of Monday and Tuesday of this week in some centers, and due to the numerous centers and the extensive network of the Communications Infrastructure Company, these changes are done center-to-center and will take several days.’
