Some people thought that the Parliament would impose a tax on the press in the next year’s budget, but “Mohsen Zanganeh”, the vice-chairman of the Budget Bill 2025 Consolidation Commission, announced the continuation of the tax exemption for the press, media and news agencies.
According to Ideaagency, Zangeneh, referring to the parliament’s resolution regarding the tax exemption of publishing, press and Quranic activities in the next year, explained that according to paragraph (l) of Article 139 of the Direct Taxes Law, all cultural, press, artistic and Quranic institutions are exempted from paying taxes.
He added: “In its proposed budget bill, the government had presented a new clause regarding the tax exemption of media institutions licensed by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and the Broadcasting Organization, but this clause was removed during the review of the bill in the parliament.”
Zanganeh stated that the purpose of removing this clause was to prevent tax exemptions from being extended to companies that produce audio and video content (VODs), emphasizing that this decision will not have any effect on the tax exemption of press, media and news agencies, and they still enjoy this advantage.
