Mehdi Akhavan Behabadi, the CEO of Hamrah-e-Aval, at the General Assembly of Iran Mobile Communications Company, identified filtering as the reason for reducing the quality of the Internet of all operators in the country and announced that two-thirds of Hamrah-e-Aval subscribers use VPN.
According to Iran digital economy annotation, Akhavan believes that filtering will only benefit the sellers of VPN. In this regard, he said: “When two-thirds of our subscribers use VPN, the only winners are the friends who sell VPN.”
The CEO of Hamrah-e-Aval said:
Another problem that filtering creates is security problem, VPN infects people’s phone. In addition to this issue, VPNs infect the subscriber’s phone with malware, and each of these phones acts as a cyber attacker to the country’s communication network. In this way, from a technical point of view, a very high cost is imposed on the operators to be able to re-establish the security of the network.
According to what was stated in today’s meeting (July 20th) of Hamrah-e-Aval Forum, this company has 55% of the revenue market share with 102 million subscribers (HLR) and 71 million active subscribers (VLR). Also, mobile data traffic growth in 2023 was 24% and 9.4 million new subscribers were attracted.
The operating income of the main company has increased from almost 760 million dollors to 990 million dollors. In addition, the net profit of the main company has increased from almost 100 million dollors to 120 million dollors.
According to Akhavan , 48,630 4G location sites and more than 1,000 5G location sites have been launched.
