According to IDEA, more than 70% of people consistently use social networks. Zelkaa’s statistics also indicate that on average, each Iranian Instagram user follows over 275 public pages and in the past year, each user has liked more than 7,000 posts on this social network.
In 1401 (2022-2023), the total number of posts published in public channels of Persian Telegram exceeded 660 million, and the number of domestic and foreign social media stores was reported to be over 780,000.
Over the past four years, the number of Iranian Instagram users has shown a steady growth trend, increasing from 28.5 million in 1398 (2019-2020) to 41 million in 1401. The number of public pages on Persian Instagram surpassed 6.3 million, with 440 million posts published and receiving a total of 291 billion likes.
According to Zelkaa’s statistics, almost all Iranian businesses have a presence on Instagram. 94% of businesses are on Instagram, 72% on Telegram, 29% on Twitter, 44% on Aparat (a video sharing platform), and 17% have channels or pages on YouTube.
Each business publishes an average of 4 content pieces per month on Instagram, 2 on Telegram, 6.8 on Twitter, 0.4 on Aparat, and 0.2 on YouTube. The highest number of followers is in the order of Instagram, Telegram, Twitter, YouTube, and Aparat. This data was collected from the analysis of more than 9,000 active businesses in various industries and associations.
After the filtering of Instagram, the monthly video views on Persian Instagram decreased and this decline continued until Aban month (October-November), after which the views started increasing again, although by the end of the year, they still hadn’t reached the level of Farvardin month (March-April).
The chart of total comment counts shows that user interaction on this social network increased from Shahrivar month (August-September), peaked in Mehr month (September-October), and then declined after that in Aban month (October-November).
In Persian Telegram, last year, 870,000 channels published 521 million posts, which were viewed 593 billion times. The highest amount of content production in the past year was in Shahrivar month (August-September), and after that, the content decreased and reached its lowest point in Aban month (October-November). However, the content production increased after Azar month (November-December) and by the end of the year, it exceeded the level of Farvardin month (March-April) of the previous year.
Conversely, the highest number of views on Persian Telegram posts was in Khordad month (May-June), followed by a gradual decline in several stages and reaching its lowest point in Aban month (October-November). After that, there was growth again, and by the end of the year, it reached the same level of views as Khordad month.
The levels of views and content production on these two platforms indicate that although filtering led to a decrease in users, after a while, users were able to increase their activities on these networks again using VPNs and restore them to their previous levels.
Out of every four Instagram pages, one is related to fashion or lifestyle.
In Iran, one-fourth of the total union shops in Europe are Instagram shops. The number of Instagram shops has increased from neighboring countries such as Turkey and the UAE, indicating hidden unemployment in the country that has driven many towards self-employment.
The highest number of Persian Instagram pages belong to the fashion and lifestyle categories. Individuals and news, beauty and skincare, technology and gadgets, and sports and fitness rank next. Generally, out of every four public Instagram pages, one is related to fashion or lifestyle.
In the Soroush Plus messaging app, 25% of public channels are related to lifestyle. Shop channels in this messaging app make up 15%, religious channels 14%, and news channels 12%. The least number of channels are in the sports and children categories. The reported number of active channels on this messaging app is over 180,000.
Among more than 650,000 public Instagram shops in Persian, most Iranian shops are related to fashion and clothing, as well as beauty services. In Telegram, with over 90,000 shop channels, the largest channels are related to fashion and clothing, followed by digital products.
On the Rubika social network, more than 26,000 shops are active, with about 27% of them in the clothing category and around 17% in beauty and hygiene.
Instagram shops published the least amount of content in Mehr month of the past year. The amount of content published in these shops was over 20 million in Shahrivar month (August-September), but it decreased to less than 5 million in Mehr month (September-October) and hadn’t reached 10 million in Dey month (December-January). After that, it experienced an increase and almost reached the level of Shahrivar month in Esfand month (February-March).
In general, more than 150,000 Instagram pages and Telegram channels publish advertisements. According to statistics from “Jaryan”, the total revenue of highly followed pages and influencers on Persian Instagram through advertising exceeds 1,600 billion Tomans.
