According to the Speedtest report, the fixed internet speed in Iran has reached 15.28 Mbps and the mobile internet speed has reached 37.36 Mbps.
According to Iran digital economy annotation, this issue has led to the growth of Iran’s rank among the countries of the world in terms of internet speed, and it has reached the 154th position in the fixed internet with an increase of two places, and it has reached the 73rd place in the mobile internet with an increase of three places. This report adds that the average speed of fixed internet in the world has not changed significantly compared to last month, and the speed of mobile internet has also decreased slightly in the world.
Speedtest publishes a monthly report on fixed and mobile internet speeds in the world and in different countries. The latest report of this company is related to May 2024, which was published a few hours ago, and according to it, the average speed of fixed and mobile internet in Iran has increased compared to last month. Currently, the average mobile internet speed in the country has reached 37.36 Mbps, which has grown by almost 5% compared to last month. The average fixed internet speed has also reached 15.28 Mbps, which has experienced an increase of about 7.5% compared to last month.
Looking at the statistics published by Speedtest in June of last year, it can be said that the average speed of mobile and fixed internet in the country has also increased compared to this time last year. In June 2023, the average speed of mobile internet in the country was 35.68 Mbps, which has now increased by 4.5%, and the average speed of fixed internet was 12.6 Mbps last year. , indicates a growth of 17.5 percent.
It seems that according to the demands that the government had from the internet providers after the increase in the price of mobile and fixed internet in the country, these companies were able to help their speed growth by increasing their liquidity and the new costs they obtained.
Looking at the speedtest reports over the past months, it can be said that the phrase “increase in mobile internet speed” has been used several times for Iran in the past few months, and in the last month or two, the average fixed internet speed has also increased several times. The development of the optical fiber project in the country is one of the reasons for the growth of fixed internet speed, which is expanding with a delay of several years. Earlier in Iran, it was accompanied by the development of mobile internet, and unlike many countries in the world, the main burden of the country’s internet network in Iran is on the shoulders of mobile internet; The issue that needs to be changed and the culture of user consumption should go towards using fixed internet using projects like optical fiber.
Needless to say, Iran’s ranking has not been able to achieve a better ranking compared to last year. In fact, as Iran tries to grow in its internet infrastructure development, other countries are also doing the same thing and they are not standing still. In this regard, Iran’s rank in mobile internet compared to last year still has a difference of about ten ranks, but it seems that if the process of changes in this field continues, Iran will be able to improve its rank bit by bit and in a better position than other countries. to be placed The increase of mobile and fixed internet infrastructure in Iran is taking place while, according to the private companies providing the internet, due to the sanctions and the increase in dollar costs, this issue is much more difficult than before, and these companies are making extra efforts to improve the situation.
Another noteworthy point in the country’s Internet is the issue of filtering some popular platforms and social networks, which, according to various statistics, has actually failed.
The growth of Iranian users and visits to social networks such as Instagram and the growth rate of social commerce (social commerce, i.e. purchases from pages on the Instagram social network) etc. show that users have been able to bypass this filtering. Some parts of the government body have also repeatedly announced their position regarding the filtering of some platforms such as Google Play, YouTube, or Discord, but it seems that the filtering committee and competent institutions have not made these recommendations the basis of their work, and despite repeated requests to remove the filtering of some platforms. These requests are opposed. It has been heard that the National Security Council has issued an order to filter Instagram and WhatsApp, and the country’s prosecutor’s office has also ordered Dixword filtering, but still many actions of the filtering committee are not reported to the media and many decisions to block are made without a transparent mechanism.
What is going on in the world?
Globally, Singapore continues to offer the highest fixed internet speeds as it has for the past few months. The average fixed internet speed in this country has increased again compared to last month and is now equal to 289.98 Mbps. Hong Kong has been placed in the second place, which was able to reach this position from the third place last month and overtake Chile, and now has the second fastest fixed internet speed in the world with a speed of 282.48 Mbps.
In the third place, Chile is one step down, and although its average speed has increased, it has not been able to increase this compared to its competitors. Chile now has the third fastest fixed internet in the world with an average speed of 274.46 Mbps.
In terms of mobile internet speed in the world, there have been no significant changes in the ranking of countries compared to last year. Our three neighboring countries, namely Qatar, UAE and Kuwait, have the fastest mobile internet in the world, as in previous months. The average mobile internet speed in these three countries has increased again compared to the previous months and their distance from other countries in the world in terms of mobile internet speed is increasing day by day. In fact, if Kuwait ranks third in the world in terms of mobile internet speed with an average speed of 234 Mbps, it is nearly 100 Mbps different from the fourth place, which belongs to Denmark, because Denmark has the highest average mobile internet speed in its country. It has recorded the number of 147 megabits per second.
