The head of the e-commerce development center said: In the first 6 months of this year, compared to the same period last year, we saw a 75% growth in the volume of e-commerce transactions, which, of course, is without considering electronic government transactions.
National E-commerce Day: Celebrating Top E-commerce Companies and Encouraging Youth in the Digital Business Environment
According to IDEA, Amin Kolahdozan, head of the e-commerce development center, said this morning at the opening of the National E-commerce Day event: “Like last year, we will discuss awarding prizes to the best e-commerce companies in the country.” We will honor the first 10 companies based on the registered financial information and how they respond to their customers, and we hope to see a change of 10 companies every year.
He added: This year, we have the national budding event, which started last year in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Education, to familiarize the country’s youth with the digital business environment. The events related to this national event started last year and the top performers of this event will receive their prizes so that they can travel their way with speed and power.
Kolahdozan clarified: that the signing of the memorandum between the government and the innovative private sector is one of the other parts of this event. In the Ministry of Security, we took the same approach, and a significant number of works are done through private sector companies. In this program today, memorandums of understanding will be concluded in different sectors. MoUs are a beginning for the participation of the private sector in executive affairs.
He pointed out: After today’s ceremony, we will sign 6 memorandums. Of course, there are good capacities for concluding other contracts as well. We started three main topics from February last year. Monitoring the sales market of mobile phones, tires and car oil is one of our main topics that Internet companies were not very active in in the past. E-commerce Development Center intends to create more transparency in this area.
Kolahdozan stated: In the first 6 months of this year, compared to the same period last year, we had a very good growth in the field of e-commerce, and only in the volume of e-commerce transactions, we saw a growth of 75%, of course, this is without considering electronic government transactions.
Only 2.5 billion dollars invested in Trendyol
Following the ceremony, Saeed Mohammadi, the vice president of the Electronic Commerce Association, announced that reasons such as lack of transparency have caused the growth of e-commerce in Iran to be slow.
He continued: “When we did not see any activity in the field of e-commerce in Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Iran took good steps to develop this issue. There are many talents in this field in our country. Currently, we have more than 100,000 active online stores in the country, which we do not see in any other industry with this volume of economic activity and competition. Also, in terms of the depth of technology and technical knowledge, Iranian companies are far ahead of the largest similar groups in the region.”
But why, despite the potential, infrastructure and population that welcomes e-commerce, internet retailing in Iran has not yet achieved much success? With this question, Mohammadi announced: “The opaque economy in the country is one of these factors; Because online retailing requires a completely transparent economy. “Many of the big internet platforms can’t offer market regulated goods because no one is selling them, which is why the structure is opaque.”
Saeed Mohammadi, the co-founder of Digikala, believes that there is also an investment problem in Iran, which has made e-commerce unable to grow as it should: “2.5 billion dollars have been invested in Turkey’s Trendyol platform alone, but these numbers in Iran does not exist; Even though we have a wider and more populated country. This problem can be solved to some extent with measures such as stock exchange.
