The download speed in the 4G network of Hamrahe Aval and Irancell has decreased by about 7MB per second from the fall of 2022 to the fall of 2023. RighTel has followed a different process in this field and the speed of its network has increased.
According to Iran digital economy annotation, the latest report of the Regulatory and Radio Communications Regulatory Organization of Iran’s ICT situation, which reflects last year’s autumn statistics, has again reported a decrease in the download speed in the 4G network of Hamrahe Aval and Irancell. Meanwhile, at the beginning of winter last year, the Ministry of Communications made a condition with the operators to increase the 4G download speed by 30% by the end of autumn 2024.
The decrease in the 4G download speed of the two main mobile phone operators can be seen in almost all seasons. On average, it can be said that the 4G download speed in Hamrahe Aval and Irancell networks has decreased by 7MB per second over the course of a year. During this time, RighTel has followed the opposite way and the download speed in its network has increased by about 6MB per second.
The decrease in speed in the network of operators becomes important when if they are to fulfill the condition of the Ministry of Communications to increase the speed of 4G by 30%, their average speed will reach about 15 MB, which is lower than the fall of 2022 and it can be said that even with a 30% increase Again, the speed on their network has decreased. If the 30% desired by the Ministry of Communications were to occur based on the speeds of the fall of 2022, the average speed in Hamrahe Aval and Irancell would reach about 25 MB.
The decrease in 4G speed occurred while 93% of mobile Internet subscribers use this technology to connect to the Internet, and only 7% are 3G subscribers. The regulatory report says that 54% of mobile internet subscribers are on Hamrahe Aval network, 42% on the Irancell network and 4% on the RighTel network.
Also, according to the same report, at the end of last fall, Mobile First covered 81% of the country’s population with 4G mobile phones, Irancell covered 61% and Rightel slightly more than 48% of the population covered with 4G. In total, the number of 4G subscribers at the end of December last year was more than 101 million people, which shows that millions of Iranians subscribe to more than one mobile operator at the same time.
Steady communication, as always
In fixed internet, the penetration rate and the number of subscribers have decreased compared to the fall of 2022; But compared to the summer of 2023, we see an increase. Also, the number of FTTH subscribers increased continuously from 2020 to the fall of last year, and although it has not yet reached one million, it has tripled. On the other hand, the number of x-DSL subscribers has decreased from spring to autumn last year.
In landline, we still see a slight decrease in the number and penetration rate of subscribers, which occurred in both rural and urban areas.
Normally, a large majority of landline phone subscribers receive service from Iran Telecommunication Company, which includes more than 28 million subscribers. In this market, FCP companies have managed to have slightly more than 290,000 landline subscribers, and companies that have a Servco license have about 1,300 subscribers.
An interesting point in this regard is the UNSP licensed companies that have managed to attract more than 93,000 landline subscribers in this short period of their activity.
