According to the Minister of Communications, this bill will be sent to the parliament this year, but the time of its consideration is not known
According to Iran digital economy annotation, The Minister of Communications gave explanations about the latest status of the bill for the protection of users’ personal data. He announced the revision of this bill and said that this bill will be approved by the government and sent to the parliament by the end of the year.
In response to a question about the latest status of the user data protection bill, Eisa Zarepour, the Minister of Communications, said: “Based on the experiences of other countries (new laws passed in the European Union and…), this bill will be revised and one year We worked on it.”
According to him, this bill, which was approved by the government’s special economic working group, came to the government’s floor last week, but it was referred to the Judicial Law Commission for further investigations: “It is being investigated there, and I requested the Minister of Justice to speed up the investigations. “
Zarepour, in response to the question whether this bill will be prepared this year or not? He said: “It will be sent to the parliament this year, but the time of its consideration in the parliament is not known.”
He considered the people’s data in the virtual space as one of the main assets of the people and said: “People’s lives are in the virtual space and people’s data should be systematized in this space, which is foreseen in this bill.”
It should be noted that the discussion of the user data protection bill has been pursued by the Ministry of Communications of the 12th and 13th governments for years, but it has not yet reached a conclusion. In February 2021, Mohammad Khansari, the head of the Information Technology Organization, promised to finalize the personal data protection bill by the end of the year, but two years have passed since then and the bill has not yet been sent to the parliament.
Considering the increase in cyber attacks in the last two years and the disclosure of platform users’ information, the need for such a bill is felt more and more.
