Alishad Etezadi, the CEO of Digi Express, considers the focus on software and up-to-date technology, along with the outsourcing of hardware parts, as the foundations of scaling the logistics system, and according to him, Digi Express plans to offer its services to other e-commerce companies in the near future.
According to Iran digital economy annotation, Alishad Etezadi introduces Digi Express as the logistics arm of Digikala and believes: Digikala had formed its logistics system over time and over 15 years. But it was at a point where it could introduce its own logistics as an independent company that would find the possibility of entering Iran’s e-commerce market in the future.
According to him: The weak point of e-commerce businesses is logistics, and Digikala has succeeded in developing this sector. For this reason, as one of the strategic foundations of Digikala, the issue of logistics has been raised, and to strengthen it, the need to form an independent company has been felt.
The CEO of Digi Express introduces this technology-oriented company and believes: When talking about logistics, cars and trucks come to everyone’s mind. But instead of relying on hardware, our point of view is on software and we are trying to develop based on modern technology using a strong software team.
He said about providing Digi Express services to other e-commerce companies: Using the created capacity, we are providing services to the whole of Iran. Considering the level of good service provided by DigiExpress, in the near future we intend to provide this service to companies active in the field of e-commerce that need logistics.
Etezadi said about the difference between the machines that deliver goods, which today does not only include machines with the Digikala logo, and the issue of the user’s sense of stickiness: Currently, we have not conducted research and surveys on whether this difference has an impact on customer purchases or not.
Maximum coverage
According to Etezadi, today more than 80% of Iran’s population is covered by DigiExpress and sending goods to the most distant places is done by DigiExpress system. We do not cover about 20% of the population, which is only 5% in terms of orders, and we do these orders by mail.
According to him: In the beginning, Digikala orders were sent entirely by post, and gradually orders were delivered using other companies. But in the future, it will be possible for Digiexpress to use the capacity of other companies as the logistics arm of Digikala. Considering our goal of being technology-oriented, we are looking to outsource hardware parts as much as possible.
On- Time Delivery
He also said about the On-Time arrival of orders during peak times such as year-end shopping. One of the important issues of logistics is scalability, and we have been focusing on this issue for the past year. In such a way that with the increase of orders, there is no impact on the customer’s experience. We deliver about 95% of the orders to the customer on time, but one of the reasons for 5% of the orders not arriving on time is the failure of the seller or suppliers to deliver the goods on time.
The CEO of DigiExpress said about the possibility of reducing the acceptance of requests by freelance colleagues: Using the tools and technology used, we have the possibility to prepare days before the courier and we can even replace the delivery person. That’s why we don’t depend too much on our limited number of cars.
In the end, he explained the challenges of the logistics field as follows: Companies active in this field are divided into two traditional and modern sectors. Traditional companies are facing more hardware challenges, and we, who are advancing in a technology-oriented manner, are facing a lack of specialized human resources and the migration of these human resources.
