“Divar” as an online advertisement platform opened its platform and allowed access to the APIs of this platform in the form of a possibility called “next to the Divar” for other private sector businesses.
According to the Iran digital economy annotation, Divar is the first private company that has made it possible for other businesses to serve the users of this platform in addition to using Divar’s APIs. So far, 40 platforms have been directly connected to the Divar and provide service to Divar users through the extension.
Divar has made it possible for other businesses to access the APIs of this platform in a situation where government platforms were not yet willing to open their data, and regulators have been reluctant to do so, even though they have repeatedly required different departments to share data with each other. But now Divar has made this possibility available to other businesses in an action that has declared it free for the time being.
The managers of Divar state that the reason for implementing this idea is to increase the nominal value of this platform and create value for the user, and they say that “divar-side” is not a commercial service and was not provided with the purpose of commercialization. Some ecosystem experts consider this action of Divar as a step towards increasing the nominal value of Divar and entering the stock market. An issue that the administrators of Divar do not completely deny or confirm and believe that this service has no influence on this decision.
Divar is not looking for income from “Beside Divar”
Sadra Aliabadi, the chief product manager of Divar, says about this: Divar has more than 50 million users and is one of the important e-commerce platforms in Iran, which has the mission of connecting the transaction parties. But since almost 500,000 ads are registered on Divar every day, in some cases, users could not easily use the services of other companies in the later parts of the transaction. It was at this point that we thought of creating a service called “Beside Divar”.
He further considers one of Divar’s missions to be the democratization of shopping and says: We have sided with small sellers because our mission is C2C, and to fulfill this mission to complete the value chain of Divar, we have added “Beside Divar”.
In response to the attachment about the financial advantage of this work for Divar, Aliabadi also says: We do not earn any financial income from this work and we do not have any short-term income plan from it. Besides, we grow by being with business partners, and its advantage for us is to increase the value of Divar. We came to the conclusion that we need to change our strategy. I emphasize that Beside Divar is free in the trial phase and our goal is not to make short-term money from this platform.
Aliabadi continues: The new solution of Divar, which is known as “Beside Divar”, is to improve the user experience by creating open innovation in cooperation with the country’s technology ecosystem. Now Divar users can use the services of other companies and startups in the process of making transactions on the Divar platform.
According to Aliabadi, “Beside Divar” is a platform for adding information and services to Divar, and companies and startups by providing their services next to Divar, can help users find a simple and safe buying and selling experience while developing their business.
He explains: For example, the possibility of safe payment for the buyer and seller during text conversation has been provided through Toman. That is, by choosing “secure payment”, the money paid for the purchase of goods or services or the deposit is placed in an intermediary account and transferred to the other party’s account only after the user’s approval, thus eliminating the risk of fraud.
Divar is an open platform; it aims to democratize trading
Aliabadi introduces Snapbox, Tapsipack, Padro and Postex among those that have now started their activities in the field of delivering parcels to users on the “Beside Divar” platform. He explains about this: We have already been promoting the issue of ensuring the accuracy of car and expert ads with suppliers such as Karnameh, and now “Mechanic Companion” has been added to Divar, and other buyers can use ad extensions for any Advertise demand for expertise or price evaluation. “Alomelk” has come to help users as a price evaluation and real estate expert service in Divar. An extension like Lamingo has been added to Divar chat for contract signatures.
Aliabadi states that the purpose of this change in the platform is to turn Divar into an “open platform” for the presence and activity of other services in order to provide high-quality and more convenient services to users, and says: Although “Beside Divar” started its activity with the presence of start-up ecosystem companies, but The rest of the internet service providers can also develop their own add-ons in the fields of business panel, advertisement content, and chat, and by activating it on Divar customer’s , they can find their services.
He goes on to point out the conditions of using Divar and says: Businesses that are in direct competition with Divar are naturally not a suitable space for them because we have provided this possibility to coordinate the needs of users and complete the service chain of Divar.
In the end, the chief product manager of Divar explains about the capacity of Divar in the open platform: Right now, without Divar being announced publicly, more than 40 service providers are placed on Divar and our platform is ready to scale. Financial circulation between secure payment, delivery and authentication services has brought more than 10 billion Tomans per month for our business partners, and this possibility itself shows that Beside Divar has provided suitable conditions for our business partners.
