The CEO of the Tehran Taxi Organization’s Management and Supervision Organization said: “The Tehran Municipality’s online taxi system was launched with the aim of providing smart services to citizens and can act as a competitive option against internet platforms such as internet taxis, but it will not completely replace them.”
According to Ideaagency, Shadi Maleki stated yesterday: “This system is a platform for official taxis that operate with rates approved by the council. People have the right to choose, and this system strives to provide safer and more reliable services to all Tehran citizens.”
The CEO of the Tehran Taxi Management and Supervision Organization added: “The fare in this system is calculated intelligently and drivers cannot change it. Currently, the duration of the trip affects the fare, but starting next year, factors such as weather conditions and the slope of the route will also be taken into account in determining the fare.”
She emphasized: “It is confidently announced that the official taxis of Tehran Municipality, thanks to careful monitoring and the selection process of drivers, are one of the reliable options for citizens for intra-city travel.”
Maleki added: “Given people’s increasing tendency to use internet services, Tehran Municipality has designed this system to provide safe and affordable travel, along with other platforms.”
For several years, internet taxis such as Snapp and Tapsi have gained a high share of the transportation market with their rapid growth, but official city taxis that operate under the supervision of the Taxi Organization have faced a decline in popularity due to the lack of use of modern technologies.
In recent years, the city administration has proposed plans to make Tehran’s taxi fleet smarter, but due to the lack of appropriate infrastructure, these plans have not come to fruition. Now, with citizens’ increasing acceptance of online services, the Tehran Municipality has decided to launch a dedicated system for official taxis to provide services in addition to competing with online taxis.
According to the information available from the Tehran Taxi Organization, although the capital’s online taxi system has been launched since January 25 of this year, in the first phase of this project, 34,000 taxis have been connected to this system.
