Iran’s Shetab was connected to Russia’s Mir, and Iranian travelers can now receive rubles from Russian ATMs with their bank cards.
According to Ideaagency, yesterday (November 11), the Governor General of the Central Bank, Mohammadreza Farzin, said at the unveiling ceremony of the connection of the Shetab network to the Russian Mir network: the project that we are witnessing the opening of today is aimed at creating integration in the payment networks and facilitating financial transactions between the citizens of the two countries. By connecting the national payment networks of the two countries, the borders of electronic payments were removed.
The Governor General of the Central Bank said about the first phase of Shetab to Mir connection project: This project was put into operation at the end of September and will be unveiled today. In this plan, tourists can use bank cards of Iran and members of the Shetab network in ATMs of Russia.
Farzin said about how this scheme works in Russian bank ATMs: Now Iranian tourists can easily receive ruble notes from Russian ATMs using the Riyal balance of their accelerated cards. Currently, passenger currency is offered in the amount specified in the Central Bank’s foreign exchange regulations through this platform, and in the future, other service currency headings for Russia will also be offered on this platform.
The head of the central bank said about the role of Iranian banks in the project of connecting Shetab to Mir: until today, four Iranian banks have fully implemented the necessary changes and the ability to use them for the card holders of these banks has become scientific. Also, in four other Iranian banks, the internal test of system development has been successfully completed and other banks of the country will be gradually added to this project by applying the necessary changes.
Farzin said about the use of NFC in this project: ATMs equipped with NFC technology support in Russia have the possibility of accepting the bank cards of Iran’s Shetab network.
Noush Afarin Momen Vaghefi, Vice President of New Technologies of the Central Bank, said about the first phase of the implementation of the Shetab to Mir connection project: Currently, the first phase of this project has been used and Iranian tourists can receive money from ATMs in Russia, and in the next phase, Russian tourists can Store terminals in Iran use. The National Informatics Company and a Russian company have cooperated in this field. Also, Saderat Bank and VTB Bank of Russia are also present as brokers in this project. Currently, Mellat, Refah, Saderat, Pasargad, Sepah and several other banks are connected to Mirshetab.
The vice president of new technologies of the Central Bank emphasized: In the Kahroba project, we have chosen to use mobile phones to save costs, and by the end of the year, people will be able to make payments with mobile phones and through NFC. Kahroba design is used in the Mirshetab project.
Mohsen Karimi, International Vice President of the Central Bank, said about the challenges of Shetab to Kahroba project: This plan, which was proposed three years ago, seemed almost far-fetched, but with the efforts of the Central Bank and Iran’s ambassador to Russia, this plan was implemented. One of our challenges was the difference between the technology level in Iran’s Shetab network and the technology level in today’s banking network. This difference has been resolved to a large extent with the efforts made.
