According to Iran digital economy annotation, Amir Mohammadzadeh Lajevardi, Head of the Regulatory Authority, announced that the 5G network will be activated on Samsung phones in Iran by the end of this year.
Lajevardi confirmed that on June 19, Samsung sent a letter to the authority indicating that it will gradually support Samsung phones to utilize Iran’s 5G mobile network by the end of 2024. According to unofficial statistics, 91% of imported Samsung phones in Iran are capable of supporting 5G networks, and approximately 50% of active smartphones in Iran’s mobile network are Samsung devices.
Earlier, the Minister of Communications had also stated that multiple meetings with phone importers had been held by the Regulatory Authority, and one major importer had confirmed in a letter that 5G would soon be activated on this brand’s phones.
The Minister also mentioned that 5G is currently active on domestically produced phones and some Chinese phones. Meanwhile, the regulatory authority had previously announced that 2,000 5G sites had been installed and operational in the country.
5G, or the fifth generation of mobile networks, represents the latest technology in wireless networks, offering significant advancements over previous generations (4G, 3G, 2G). This technology aims to increase speed, reduce latency, and expand network capacity. By overcoming the limitations of previous generations, 5G can bring about a major transformation in communications and related technologies.
