The monopoly of the National Post Company in transporting goods was extended by the government for at least another two years by extending the deadline for implementing the statute.
According to the Iran digital economy annotation, the minister of mining industry and trade had submitted a proposal to the government board and requested that the monopoly of goods transportation be removed from the law and statutes of the Post Company and that the Post Company assume the role of regulator in the field of goods transportation. But it seems that this proposal was not accepted by the government and the statute of the National Post Company was extended for another two years without any changes in it.
According to the law establishing the National Post Company, “the supply of postal services is at the disposal of the government, which is carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran Post Company according to this law. Other real and legal persons do not have the right to act in the field of said services without the company’s consent.”
Also, according to the charter of the postal company, “everything that can be sent physically or virtually and documents, whether printed, handwritten or electronic, goods, objects and papers and financial transfers, notices, notices of municipal services such as water bills and sewage, electricity, gas, landline and mobile phone and municipal fees that have a sender or receiver address”.
Also, according to the articles of association of the post company, monitoring the acceptance, shipping and distribution of all mails of online shopping and sales, as well as managing the funds received at the domestic and international level (portal) in order to achieve speed, accuracy and security indicators in accordance with the standards set by the company’s duties.
It is Post, therefore, companies applying for activities in the field of logistics must obtain an activity license from the Post Company, but the long process of issuing an activity license has caused few companies to apply for an activity license in the field of logistics over the past years, from the companies that have received an activity license so far. have not achieved much success in this field.
In order to develop e-commerce and solve logistics problems in this sector, the Ministry of Security had sent a proposal to the government asking for simpler private companies to be able to operate in the field of transporting goods, but it seems that this proposal of the Ministry of Security has been postponed for another two years.
