In native social networks, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology has denied restrictions and internet disconnection during specific hours in certain cities of the country.
According to IDEA, in the past 24 hours, news attributed to the Minister of Communications has been circulated on social networks, claiming that the internet will be disconnected during specific hours in some cities of the country. In response to this news, the Ministry of Communications’ public relations department has denied it. Following this, Eisa Zarepour , the Minister of Communications, also reacted to this news on his personal page on a native platform, dismissing it.
Zarepour stated in this regard, ‘Some have become accustomed to playing with people’s minds and emotions by generating fake news and distorted narratives to gain attention and present a distorted image of the country’s executive management. This ‘internet disconnection’ news is also a fabricated account of my Thursday interview regarding the Ministry’s efforts to increase network capacity.’
The Ministry of Communications’ public relations department also stated in its denial as follows: ‘The internet disconnection and restrictions are denied. Today, some news reports claimed that the Minister of Communications stated that internet disconnection occurs in some provinces and during specific hours. This news is denied, and it is a misinterpretation of the minister’s interview last week regarding the explanation of network capacity enhancement operations in the country.’
The reference here is to Zarepour’s remarks about internet disruptions from the past week. The Minister of Communications stated in a government meeting, ‘The reduction in internet speed during early morning hours in the coming days will continue. We are in the process of expanding the country’s telecommunications network, which is expected to add 50% to the capacity of the IP layer of the network in the next six months, while new equipment is being integrated into the network.’
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communications has categorically denied any planned internet disconnection in the coming days, which we also witnessed a similar approach last year. On September 21, 2022, Zarepour, on the sidelines of a government meeting, explicitly stated, ‘No one is seeking to disconnect the internet.’ His ministry, under his orders, even issued a statement denying the existence of any planned intermittent internet disconnection in the following days. Nevertheless, on the same day, mobile internet was disconnected and became national.
This pattern continued for almost a month, and its effects are clearly seen in official reports such as the 1401 Derak cloud report.
