“Lack of flexible working hours” and inappropriate salaries has been two of the main reasons for leaving work for about 50% of female employees.
According to the IDEA, Jobvision’s report on job selection criteria, retention factors and employees’ job leaving factors was published in 2023. According to this report, inappropriate salaries are the cause of 85% of the company’s workforce leaving work.
The first part of this report mentions job selection criteria for job seekers. Based on the surveys conducted by Jobvision of three thousand users, 92% of job seekers have stated that they pay attention to the appropriate salary of that job position when choosing a job.
The data in this report show that about 60% of women pay special attention to “flexible working hours” when choosing a job. The possibility of remote work and the location of the company are among the criteria that are more important for choosing a job from the point of view of women, compared to men.
Among the criteria that become more important for employees as they get older, we can mention “holding a strategic and influential position in the organization” and “brand and reputation of the organization”.
The possibility of personal development and remote work, the criteria of the young generation for choosing a job
The criteria that are important for the young generation in choosing a job are “possibility of training and personal development” and “possibility of telecommuting and flexible working hours”. Also, 66% of users in the age group of 20 to 30 years have included the possibility of personal training and development in the list of their main criteria.
According to this report, 73% of job seekers with more than ten years of experience pay attention to “good relationship between the people of the organization” after the appropriate salaries. Also, what is important for senior managers in choosing a job is “growing” and “brand and reputation of the organization”.
In the section of factors influencing the retention of employees in the organization, 73% said that “appropriate salary” is one of the factors that causes them to remain in the organization.
According to the data available in the Jobvision report, 60% of people aged 20 to 30 have stated that the possibility of personal training and development is one of the main factors of their longevity in the organization.
The graph below shows that the factors of the organization being growing and having a strategic position in the retention of 74% of senior managers are as important as appropriate salaries.
In the part related to the factors affecting employees leaving their jobs, 85% of them said that “inappropriate salary” is the most important factor that causes them to leave the organization.
50% of women leave work due to inflexible working hours
“Lack of flexible working hours” has also been one of the main reasons for leaving work for about 50% of female employees. Also, according to this report, the factors that played a more important role in leaving the job of employees between the ages of 20 and 30 compared to other groups are: lack of flexible working hours, lack of telecommuting and the nature of work (routine or challenging).
The strategic mistake of human resources organizations in understanding the needs of employees
At the same time as surveying the job seekers, Jobvision asked similar questions to the human resources of the companies that play the role of the employer and asked them to tell their opinion about the criteria that can be important in the decision of the employees. The result is that employers think that a good relationship between people in the organization is even more important than the right salary. Of course, there are more significant differences between the criteria of employees and the perceptions of employers, which shows that many employers have made strategic mistakes in understanding the needs of their employees.
For example, in the case of female employees, the possibility of job promotion is the second criterion that is influential in choosing a job, but employers think that the position of this criterion is in the seventh place. On the other hand, employers think that the growing organization can have a special place for choosing a job in the eyes of employees, but for women, this criterion is ranked 10th and is not very important for many female job seekers.
There is a misconception among employers, which is clearly shown in the Jobvision survey; They think that for all job seekers in different age groups, with different genders and with little or no experience, criteria such as the growing organization, the brand and reputation of the organization, and the nature of work have a special place, but these criteria are much less important in the eyes of job seekers. And often less than 50% of job seekers think about such things to choose a job or stay in the organization.
