The Iranian Robotics Team With 30 Students, Who Have Been Preparing For This Year’s World Robotics Competition In Singapore For The Past Six Months, Faced The Sponsor Problem A Few Days Before The Competition, And They Were Able To Get Help From The People Of Iran Through Crowdsourcing.
According To IDEA, The Iranian Robotics Team, Which Faced The Problem Of Sponsoring To Participate In The Singapore World Championships, Talked To Many Groups, But Could Not Find A Suitable Sponsor, And Finally Requested The Cooperation Of The People Of Iran Through The Crowdsourcing Method. After This Request, In Just A Few Days, The Amount Needed For This Team’s Trip Was Collected And Now This Team Can Participate In The Mentioned Competitions.
Mohammadreza Karami, The Coach Of The Iranian Robotics Team, Said About Whether They Went To Government Institutions For Help Or Not: We Ourselves Did Not Want To Go To Government Support Institutions, Because Since The Establishment Of This Team, Which Was About Seven Or Eight Years Ago, It Goes Back, We Always Wanted To Be Independent. We Wanted To Be Independent From Membership To Our Own Activities And To Go In Line With The Laws Defined In The Country.
He Added: The Members Of This Team Are Teenagers Aged 14 To 18 Who Are From Different Cities Of Iran. The Team Sent For The 2023 Singapore Games Has 15 Girls And 16 Boys From 8 Provinces Of Iran. These People Are Divided Into Different Groups In The Team And Everything In This Team Is Done As A Group With The Help Of Children.
In Addition, The Technical Group And The New Technology Experience Challenge Group Are The Two Main Groups Of This Team, Each Of Which Performs Specific Tasks. The Coach Of This Robotics Team Explains: The Children Of This Year’s Team Are Very Smart And Have Advanced In Some Sciences, And Even Though They Are 14 To 18 Years Old, They Have Studied Sciences Up To The Master’s Level. The Children’s Project In This Year’s Group Is A Smart Photobioreactor To Produce Hydrogen From Blue-Green Algae Of The Caspian Sea And The Persian Gulf.
On The Other Hand, There Are Also Non-Technical Groups Among This Team; Like The Public Relations Group That Is Responsible For Holding Meetings With Other Countries, Which Have Been Able To Hold Meetings With 80 Countries So Far. The Goal Of This Group Is To Connect Iran With Other Countries And Is Trying To Create Opportunities For Other Teams. The Content Production Group Is Also One Of The Other Teams That Is Responsible For Writing Articles And Translating Articles Related To Robotics.
This Robotics Team Could Not Receive The Robotics Kit This Year Due To Sanctions And Economic Problems. On The Other Hand, Due To The Lack Of Equipment And Sufficient Working Space, This Team Has Faced Many Problems. It Was Announced That This Team Has Until October 3rd To Pay The Registration Fee Of FIRST Company And The Accommodation Of 10 Members, But This Money Was Not Available.
Karami Said About This Issue: The Guys Talked To A Few Dozen Startups Inside And Outside Iran And We Didn’t Have Any Plans For Donation (Crowdsourcing), But This Year We Talked With Different Sponsors And Until Three Weeks Ago, Everything Was Fixed, But There Were Few Sponsors.
Then, According To The Conditions Of The Sanctions, He Announced That He Could Not Do This. We Were One Coach And Thirty Students, And With Ten Days Remaining To The Competition, We Needed Several Tens Of Thousands Of Dollars In Capital So That The Children Could Go To These Competitions.
At Least Half Of The Team’s Children Are From Low-Income Families, And We Could Not Solve This Problem With Personal Expenses; However, Many Families Also Helped As Much As They Could. Everyone We Talked To Couldn’t Find A New Sponsor. Finally, We Reached The Donation Process, Which Is A Common Path For Independent And Research Teams, Fortunately, Iranians Inside And Outside Iran Were Able To Help Us.
It Should Be Mentioned That The Video Of The Request To Accompany The Children Of The Robotics Team From Iran Was Seen More Than 550 Thousand Times On Instagram, And There Is Almost The Same Number On X (Twitter) And Finally More Than 53 Million Tomans Were Crowdsourced.
The Coach Of The Iranian Robotics Team Further Said: The Financial Support Was Very Good And Even A Soldier Helped Us With 400 Thousand Tomans And Told Us: I Want You To Live Better Than Us. We Have Really Got The Feeling Of A National Team And A People’s Team, And Now Everyone Is Motivated. Ms. Anousheh Ansari Also Paid The Registration Fee Of 5 Children And The Accommodation Fee Of The Members And Coaches.
It Should Be Noted That Competitions In Singapore Have 16 Different Categories And Are Not Only For Robotics Competitions. The Awards Of These Competitions Also Go To Content Producers, And For Example, We Have Always Been Present In The Sophie Awards Section, Which Is A Short Film Of The Work Process Of The Children Of Each Team, And We Are Present This Year As Well. A Robot Also Competes In Several Games For 4 Days In The Robot Game Section And Goes To The Ranking.
It Should Also Be Noted That Among The Honors Of This Team, We Can Mention The Second Grand Prize And The Silver Medal For Engineering Design. Now, With The Support Given To These Teenagers, It Is Possible For Them To Participate In The FIRST Global Challenge 2023 In Singapore.
