According to CEOs of online educational platforms, today most teenagers are interested in learning skills and virtual classes more than traditional methods and face-to-face education
According to the IDEA, Last week, the air pollution of the capital and some cities like Mashhad caused some students to stay at home, and online education was reopened. This issue may happen several more times during the rest of the year and with the beginning of the cold season, because the cold and freezing roads can also make students stay at home. In fact, in the post-corona era, due to the growth of online education; Officially, school holidays do not have a strong meaning and children turn to online education.
From the other side, it should be said that the topic of online education is less prominent than in the past in the education system and it seems that schools no longer believe in it. This raises the question of whether online education that entered our lives a few years ago; It was a mandatory success and now it should be forgotten?
In the past, learning skills and studying were among the things that few students were interested in. Most of the children were woken up by the disturbing sound of the alarm clock. But it seems that changing the way of teaching and making classes online is one of the ways to increase the desire of teenagers, or as they say, generation Z, to education.
Education that not only does not require force and clock warning, but also takes place voluntarily. But it should be considered that the field that this generation tends to teach is no longer the Mendeleev table of chemistry or the solution of differential equations; It seems that Generation Z thinks more than others about learning a skill that will be useful in the work and life market.
“The share of online education market is increasing”
The statistics available on online education platforms also confirm the truth of this story. Mostafa Hosseini, CEO of Maktab Khoneh, pointed out that the education market is changing all over the world and stated: “What happened in the education market of the world and Iran is that since 2012 the education market in the world and faced a change in Iran.
This market, like other markets, is becoming an online market. For example, from 2000 to 2020, a series of websites in the field of e-commerce went online and continued in Iran as well. It is the same in the field of education. That is, there is a large offline market that will turn into an online market in a long-term path.”
He explained about the main age group of this platform’s audience and their areas of interest: “Our audience is from 18 years old (up to 40 years old). On the other hand, topics such as artificial intelligence, which has become very widespread, are the favorite areas of generation Z. The discussion of language education is also followed more seriously due to the increase in the desire to migrate.”
According to Hosseini, in the field of online education, there was a little compulsion to change the type of education, but the general trend shows that the share of the online market is increasing. Generation Z has a better interaction with all online areas, so it is the same in education.
Neghme Aghili, the CEO of Ostad Salam, pointed out that the new generation, especially at a younger age, communicates better with online classes and systems, stated: “Since the training is live and with the presence of a teacher, they are very well received.
The interesting point here is that the surveys of students’ families show that they have a high desire for face-to-face education. This is while their children like online education more. One of the reasons for this is that with online classes, devices such as tablets and phones are provided to them.”
Amir Gilanpour, the CEO of Classeh Platform, also pointed out that generation Z with more flexibility and mastery of technology, accepted the changes with flexibility and positive interaction, stated: “This young group with the ability to consume technology and quickly adapt to the methods New education has benefited the best from these changes. In my opinion, schools should advance their education in harmony with today’s world of this generation.”
Corona, the accelerator of virtual education
One of the cases that faced a significant growth in online education in the world was the corona virus; This is a point that the CEO of Maktab Khoneh also emphasizes: “What happened during the Corona era was that it facilitated the growth of the online market.
But with the improvement of the situation, it seems that the situation has returned to its original conditions (such as education in schools and universities, which returned to face-to-face mode). That is, we cannot say that Corona caused a substantial change, but this virus has only facilitated the existing process.
According to the CEO of Ostad Salam, maybe during the Corona era, the society accepted online education by force, but generation Z does not continue it by force, but does it with interest.
Aghili believes that those who have restrictions at home from their parents or those who like to work outside, may prefer face-to-face education. But in normal circumstances, children tend to study online to avoid wasting their time.
However, according to him, some teachers have not yet accepted online training. This is despite the fact that in today’s era, there are successful teachers who know online tools well and can use them.
The CEO of Classeh also explained about the post-corona era and education: “Increasing online training sessions, more diversity in content and paying attention to the different needs of students are among the obvious changes in education in the post-corona era. Many consider Corona as a period of time when technology and information technology enter schools and the end of Corona as the departure of these technologies. But after Corona, many other topics of technology were used. These days, we see that educational content and reverse education in schools using technologies and turning education into digital games to get closer to the world of students have increased every day.
Gilanpour believes that Corona proved that technology is not a simple tool for education and that it can provide extensive services to education and completely revolutionize education. Many schools have accepted that they must show a positive side to innovation, otherwise the society and the new generation of students will not accept the traditional methods and old models. In fact, traditional models will disappear in the near future.
Generation Z, the futuristic generation
The statistics available on online education platforms show that generation Z these days is more interested in learning skills that are more popular in the world’s job market; Skills such as website design, programming, internet buying and selling, social network management, etc.
The CEO of Maktab Khoneh believes that today it is not like the past 30 years that people are satisfied with learning one skill, but due to the development of technology and the automation of jobs, they need to update the skills they have already learned. Therefore, Generation Z enter the job market more easily and do not necessarily seek academic education.
The CEO of Classeh also explained about the new generation’s interest in learning skills: “In my opinion, the educational methods that Generation Z is looking for are unfortunately not in many schools. Of course, in many schools, methods based on digital games are used, and students have a much closer relationship with the school.
The fact is that if schools use the spaces that students are connected with, that is, technology and virtual spaces, for education, they can provide both their formal education and extracurricular education.
Online education is becoming the best way of education in the whole world. But it seems that this method of education has not yet taken place in our country as it should. This is while our country is always struggling with problems such as heavy traffic and air pollution, and eliminating face-to-face classes can solve the major problems in this area.
