Divar announced that in one month before Christmas, Iranian Armenians have searched the words related to Christmas 88,000 times on Divar, among which “Christmas tree” and “Santa Claus statue” were the top. According to the 1395 census, there are more than 130,000 Christians in Iran.
According to Iran digital economy annotation, Divar users searched for “artificial Christmas tree” more than all the accessories related to the Christmas celebration in the last month. During this time, the people of Ahvaz, Hamadan and Qom have been the most popular customers for Christmas ads.
According to the 2015 census, there are more than 130,000 Christians in Iran, the majority of them are Armenians, some of them are Assyrians, and some of them are Iranians from other ethnic groups. The history of Armenian Christmas celebration is different from other Christians in the world.
The general Christians of the world celebrate Christmas on December 25 (December 4), that is, 6 days before the beginning of the New Year, but the Christmas of Armenian Christians is January 5 (December 16), which is the fifth day of the New Year. The reason is the disagreement among Christians about the date of Jesus Christ’s birth.
Since our fellow Armenians constitute the majority of Christians in Iran, we have taken a look at the statistics of the advertisements that have been published on Divar and in connection with the accessories of this celebration, in the month leading up to the Armenian Christmas, in order to get to know the mood of this religious celebration. .
Armenian Christmas, Iranian Yalda
According to Divar Newsroom, the market of Christmas accessories is flourishing almost a month before and day by day, the closer we get to this celebration, the more prosperous it becomes. Divar data also shows this point well. During the month leading up to Christmas, both the amount of advertising and the amount of user searches increase every day. However, in this upward trend, there is an exception: Yalda. Two or three days before Yalda, both the publication of advertisements and the amount of users searching for Christmas accessories drop significantly.
Instead, Yalda ads and searches reach their peak. Of course, immediately after Yalda, right from the first of January, Christmas ads and searches will rise again and the market will be even more lively than before. Compatriots who celebrate Christmas, regardless of ethnicity and religion, are “Iranians” and naturally like to celebrate Yalda together with other Iranians.
Searches related to “Christmas”
In total, in the last one month, users of Divar have searched for phrases related to Christmas 88,000 times; From “Christmas tree” and its various decorations to “Santa’s doll”, from “Atelier” and “Photography” of Christmas to “Travel tour”, from “Deer and sleigh” to “Santa’s hat”. Among all these, “socks” may be the most attractive part of this celebration for children; The socks that adults secretly put Santa’s gifts in at the end of the night and behind the door to surprise and delight the children in the morning.
The dominant tree
“Christmas tree” has been searched for this month more than all the accessories of this celebration. 93% of all searches are for trees, followed by dolls and Santa figures with 4%. Decorations and decorative items such as colored balls, pendants, strings, garlands, lamps, candles and many other items have allocated a total of 1% of searches.
Why do Divar users search so much for “tree” among all the Christmas related stuff? Apparently, the reason is the price. The huge increase in the price of the Christmas tree in recent years, compared to other accessories related to this celebration, has probably caused many compatriots who want to celebrate Christmas to look for the “tree” on Divar platform in the hope of more reasonable prices.
According to Tejarat News, the price of the most expensive tree in the Christmas market this year is 13,800,000 Tomans approximately 275$, which has increased by 13.8 times compared to 2016 and 2.7 times compared to 2021.
Synthetics in high demand
Users who searched for “Christmas tree” in this month, more than 97% of their searches were done in the “artificial flower” subcategory of Divar. All kinds of artificial flowers, plants, trees and shrubs are advertised in this subcategory. In other words, most of Divar searches for “Christmas tree” were for “artificial” trees. Less than 3% of Christmas tree searches were done in the “natural flower and plant” subcategory. Artificial trees do not require much maintenance and many of them can be used for several years.
Geography of Christmas on the Divar
In the past month, in which cities do you think there were more ads for Christmas party supplies? Advertisers in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan compared to their population have published more Christmas ads on Divar than other Iranian cities in this month.
But it is interesting that the people of Ahvaz, Hamadan, and Qom have been the biggest customers for these ads. Ahwaz people have received the contact information of each Christmas advertisement in their city an average of 12 times. The people of Hamadan have contacted these advertisements 10 times on average, and the people of Qom 8 times. Of course, the people of Isfahan, who have been active advertisers, have also been serious customers and are ranked fourth in terms of average calls, perhaps because Isfahan, after Tehran, is home to the most populous Christian community in Iran.
Living together
According to the reports of Iran’s Statistics Center, Christian compatriots live in all 31 provinces of our country, and of course, this is not related to today and yesterday, and its history goes back decades, but centuries. Most of us, if we have had dealings with a Christian neighbor, classmate, university professor, colleague, businessperson, and craftsman, we have felt more than anything how “at peace” they are with everyone. A trait that, if appreciated in these troubled times, can help Iran remain Iran in all the abysses ahead.
