According to IDEA, Eisa Zarepour, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, announced during a conversation with IRIB (the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) at the start of the academic year, that connecting schools to the National Information Network through fiber optics is one of the ministry’s priorities. He also mentioned that negotiations have been conducted with the Ministry of Education in this regard.
He stated: “One of our plans is fiber optics for homes and businesses. In this context, providing coverage for schools is also one of our top priorities.”
Referring to the signing of a memorandum of understanding by the Ministry of Communications with the Ministry of Education in April-May of this year, he continued: “We hope that by the end of this administration, we will be able to connect urban schools to the National Information Network via fiber optics. The coverage of schools is progressing rapidly in conjunction with covering various provinces of the country.”
The Minister of Communications and Information Technology recently announced that the development of the National Information Network has reached 60%. He also stated that the fiber optics project for homes and businesses has been defined to increase user satisfaction regarding internet quality and speed. He mentioned, “With the Jihadic effort that has been made, work has been completed in over 30 cities, and based on our targets, we aim to cover eight million households with fiber optics by the end of the year.”
The Minister of Communications is speaking about the increase in internet speed and quality while acknowledging that in addition to the one-year duration of popular social media filtering, users still face internet disruptions during certain hours of the day and night.
