The 2023 Kuwait Foundation Award was awarded to Dr. Dawood Khalili, a member of the academic staff of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, for his research and activities in the field of cancer control, heart diseases and diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
According to Iran digital economy annotation, citing Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, this award was given to the professor of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences under the title of the most effective person in the field of non-communicable disease prevention and control measures, especially cardiovascular diseases in the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region.
According to this report, this award is given to one person every year by reviewing the performance of researchers who are active in this field, and the cost of this award is also provided by the World Health Organization.
In 2023, the Kuwait Foundation Award in the field of research and prevention of cardiovascular diseases has been awarded to Dr. Dawood Khalili, an epidemiologist and professor at the Metabolic Disease Prevention Research Center of the Endocrine Research Institute of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences.

According to Khalili, this organization has six regional offices in Africa, America, Eastern Mediterranean, Europe, Southeast Asia and Western Oceania, each of which independently covers the countries of their region.
The researcher of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences noted: In line with the mission of the organization, the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) annually awards scientists, researchers or specialists who have made a significant contribution to the prevention, control or research in the field of cancer, cardiovascular diseases. and have had diabetes, this award is sponsored and funded by the Kuwait Government Award Foundation.
Khalili, who is one of the cardiovascular health researchers in the global health and population department of Harvard University’s School of Public Health, also announced his applied research in the field of cardiovascular disease prediction models and recognition of high-risk people in Iran and the world.
Tehran’s sugar and lipid study, Iran’s cohort network and IRAPEN national program in the country’s health centers are the main platforms of this university professor’s research, and cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization to operationalize the results of these researches is one of his main activities.
Before this, Dr. Fereydoun Azizi, head of the Endocrine Research Institute of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, received this award in 2007.
