Dehghani Firouzabadi, the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, announced on the ‘Bivasete’ program that they have brought Tesla cars to Iran and are attempting to simulate them, drawing inspiration from them.
According to IDEA, in response to the program host’s question about whether opening Tesla cars is illegal, the Vice President for Scientific Affairs of the Presidency stated, ‘It is illegal worldwide, but as researchers, we have done it. We bought the car and wanted to open it; we didn’t commit a crime.’
Dehghani Firouzabadi believes that electric cars, unlike other vehicles, are not easily replicable because the brain of these cars cannot be copied with the naked eye, and engineering measures must be taken: ‘We opened the Tesla car and were able to draw inspiration from it to some extent. From a certain point onwards, it becomes a software issue that does not allow entry and examination.’ He believes that Chinese electric cars perform up to 90% of the work of Tesla electric cars: ‘We should not follow the wrong path of producing internal combustion engine cars until ultimately Chinese cars are offered to the people.’
Tesla Car Market
He also spoke about the formation of the market for these cars: ‘We have no problems with all countries; we have problems with four or five of them. We need to interact with other countries. The mistake we have in the field of domestic production is that we think 95% of a car must be produced domestically to be considered a domestic car, whereas what’s wrong with, like the rest of the world, producing a product in cooperation with several countries? Let the design and platform be ours, and let’s get help from different countries to produce the product. Many car companies in the world are multinational.’
He extended this matter to the production of domestic passenger planes and said, ‘We are supposed to have a consortium with five countries from friendly countries and bring the passenger plane to the production stage. In fact, we take charge of a part of the work that we are capable of.’
In another part of his remarks, Dehghani Firouzabadi said, ‘I would like Iranian youth to drive a car that they like and have a good feeling about – like a Tesla car – and [this event] is truly achievable.’
The ‘Bivasete’ program is a television program produced by the Ouj Art Organization and is broadcast on Channel One of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.
