On the anniversary of the introduction of the first SIM card in Iran, Hamrah-e-Avval (Mobile Telecommunication Company of Iran) has organized a competition on social networks, awarding a permanent line with the number ***09120029 as the prize.
According to IDEA, on 19th of Mordad, 1373 (10th of August, 1994), the mobile communications of the country began with the distribution of four SIM cards to employees of the Presidential institution. By the end of the year 1382 (2003), this network had 3.45 million subscribers.
The General Directorate of Communications of Iran’s Mobile Communications Company reported that the operation of the country’s first mobile phone network’s initial phase began in Tehran in Mordad, 1373 (July/August 1994) with 24 radio stations and a capacity for 9,200 numbers. To expand coverage to the entire country, the Council of Ministers, upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, approved the Articles of Association of Iran’s Mobile Communications Company with a capital of 2 trillion rials and transferred all mobile communication responsibilities from the Telecommunications Company of Iran to Iran’s Mobile Communications Company.
This operator now has over 100 million subscribers and according to the latest statistical reports from ICT, holds over 53% of the mobile communications market share, providing coverage to 45,000 villages through its communication network.
After 29 years since the establishment of the first mobile call in the country, the total volume of mobile network calls during the spring of 1402 (2023) has reached approximately 82 billion, and the total number of text messages has exceeded 116 billion. Hamrah-e-Avval’s market share is around 67% for calls and 82% for text messages.
With the advancement of new generations of communication technologies and the expansion of service coverage to urban and rural areas of the country through generations G۳ and G۴, Hamrah-e-Avval has achieved a population coverage of 97%. Additionally, possessing more than half of the active physical sites of the 4G network, it has been able to host around 57 million mobile broadband subscribers on its network. This subscriber count signifies Hamrah-e-Avval’s market share of approximately 54% in the mobile broadband subscriber domain.
