According to Iran digital economy annotation, Iran’s first and largest digital operator, on 1th of February 2024, increased the number of 5th generation mobile phone sites to 845. Irancell’s 845th 5G site is located in the city of Qom, and with its operation, the number of Irancell’s fifth generation mobile phone sites in this city reached 12.
The first 5G provider and the record holder for the speed and number of 5G sites in Iran has equipped all the provinces of the country with 5G mobile phones and these 845 sites serve the users of this network in different cities. Based on this, and until February 2024, the provinces of Tehran with 267 sites, Khorasan Razavi with 139 sites, and Alborz with 99 sites are the three provinces with the most Irancell fifth generation mobile phone sites.
Irancell, in addition to expanding the number of fifth generation mobile phone sites in the country, recently and in January 2024, with the presence of “Amir Mohammadzadeh Lajevardi”, Deputy Minister for Communications Affairs and Deputy Minister and Head of the Organization for Regulation and Radio Communications, from generation 5.5 network “5G-Advance” mobile phone was unveiled on the Irancell network and by performing a speed test on the 5.5 generation mobile phone and setting a record of 6.5 gigabit per second, it broke the Iranian internet speed record again.
Irancell, which started studying 5G in 2015 with the cooperation of domestic research and academic centers, and in 2016, was able to conduct the first complete test of the fifth generation mobile phone network in the presence of the then Minister of Communications and Information Technology, taking the lead in providing services based on The latest communication technologies in the world managed to launch Iran’s first 5G commercial site on the first day of August 2019 at the Communications and Information Technology Research Institute.
Iran’s first and largest digital operator, in the years 2019 and 2019, increased the number of 5G sites to “9” sites and started the project of “widespread development of 5G throughout Iran” from the beginning of 2011. Irancell, which previously held the internet speed record in Iran by recording a speed of 3.909 gigabits per second, in the real and commercial network of the fifth generation, in December 2023 at the Telecom Exhibition 2023, in addition to unveiling the fifth generation mobile phone in stand-alone mode (5G Standalone), Iran’s Internet speed record in the 5.5 generation network has been improved again by recording a number of nearly 6.5 gigabits per second.
