From getting advice to climb the peaks and finding professional climbing groups to publishing an ad about finding a wedding ring that was lost in the heights of Darakeh, from publishing an ad for a tent and a climbing knife to searching for buying cameras, flashlights, backpacks, etc
According to the Iran digital economy annotation, This is only a part of the search results and ads related to mountain and Divar climbing. In the following, we will review the data of this platform in the field of mountaineering and nature tourism.
The United Nations says that mountains host 15% of the world’s population, as well as half of the planet’s biodiversity, and provide drinking water for half of the world’s people; That’s why they are “jewels” that we should appreciate. However, the reports of the same organization emphasize that currently 84% of native plant and animal species in mountains around the world are at risk of extinction. The reason is pollution. One example is “microplastic” that has even been observed on Everest!
On the occasion of World Mountain Day, this platform has taken a look at statistics about the activities of mountaineers and nature lovers in Divar. From how they find “fellow climbers” and “fellow companions” through the publication of ads, what ads they publish, which climbing equipment they search for the most, and in which provinces they are most active. You can read the answers to these questions and more in the rest of this article.
“Ham-navard” and “Hampa” on Divar
Mountaineer and nature tourist users of Divar publish ads for many of their activities in the “social” category. This category includes three sub-categories: “Event”, “Volunteer” and “Lost”, whose ads are usually published in any field for the purpose of cooperation and are not for profit. Now, mountain and nature lovers publish ads in these categories, sometimes looking for fellow hikers and sometimes asking for information to get to know climbing groups.
Like the user who asked others in the “Voluntary Activity” subcategory to inform him “if they know of a good mountain climbing and nature tourism group”; Or another user who said that he is from Kermanshah and wants to climb Darabad peak (in the heights of Tehran) and asked those who have experience to share their opinion.
Sometimes users advertise the objects they lost or found while climbing. Like a user who found a “wedding ring” while hiking and posted it in the “lost” subcategory in order to bring it to its owner. Among these ads, you can also see ads that do responsible activities and their goal is to help nature.
In search of mountaineering and nature tourism equipment
Users of the Divar have searched for various mountaineering and camping equipment nearly 13.7 million times in the first 8 months of this year. Among these accessories, the most sought-after types of mountaineering knives are followed by tents and cameras (hunting and binoculars) in the second and third positions. These items account for 72% of all searches.
Apparently, those interested in astronomy and the sky are not few among the climbers. The evidence is that users have searched for the word “telescope” nearly 60,000 times in the “climbing and camping” subcategory of the Divar in these 8 months.
“Mountain and camping”, category of “Nunwar”.
Unlike most categories and sub-categories of goods on the Divar, in which the share of second-hand goods is usually much higher, in the category of mountaineering and camping, new items have a larger share and more than half of these ads are dedicated to themselves. Among the second-hand items, 77% of the ads are related to new items.
Advertisements and calls
In the first 8 months of this year, the residents of Ilam and Kermanshah provinces, compared to their population, have published more advertisements related to mountaineering and nature tourism equipment than other provinces. After them is Tehran province.
On the other hand, the people of Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchistan and Fars provinces should be considered the most expensive customers for buying these supplies. The average number of contacts with advertisements for mountaineering and nature tourism in these provinces is higher than in other provinces of the country. In Hormozgan province, Divar users have contacted the seller 10 times on average for each advertisement, which is almost twice the average of contacting these advertisements in the whole country.
Let’s have the mountain air!
Divar data says that hiking, climbing and nature tourism are common pastimes among the residents of our country. Of course, the unique nature of Iran’s mountains is one of the most important factors of this interest. But unfortunately, the condition of these mountains is not good. We ourselves are the cause.
Indiscriminate grazing of livestock, intentional and accidental fires, unprofessional so-called “urban” projects, destructive villa constructions, dumping of waste and many other things that we can add to this list, along with mismanagement and carelessness in the field of the environment and even ignoring it. All of them have become a pest of Iran’s mountain ecosystem.
The oak forests of Zagros are more than 5500 years old and the Hyrcanian forests in the north of the Alborz mountain range are in critical condition. If we do not save them today, in the not too distant future, these jewels will also be lost from the treasure of jewels of this border.
