According to IDEA, In a meeting on the sidelines of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2023 in Kyoto, Iranian and Japanese communication and information technology leaders highlighted the importance of expanding their mutual cooperation.
The IGF serves as a significant outcome of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2003, providing a comprehensive platform for stakeholders to engage in internet policy discussions, offer solutions to common challenges, accelerate internet access for communities, and standardize regulations governing the virtual space.
During this meeting, Mohammad Khansari, Deputy Minister of Communications and Head of the Information Technology Organization of Iran, met with Hiroshi Yoshida , Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. In this context, Japan expressed its willingness to foster bilateral collaboration in the fields of communication and information technology and underscored the importance of mutual experience-sharing.
Khansari, acknowledging the significance of the historical ties and goodwill between the two countries, conveyed Iran and Japan’s readiness to exchange experiences in policy-making and regulatory aspects of communications and information technology. He also proposed the organization of joint training courses, research seminars, and collaboration with international entities in the realm of regulation.
In response, Yoshida, the Deputy Minister of Communications in Japan, welcomed the idea of strengthening and expanding cooperation in specialized technology domains and emphasized the importance of maintaining and developing communication channels, along with the continuity of high-level meetings between the authorities of the two nations.
As per the announcement by the Information Technology Organization of Iran, the opening ceremony of the forum witnessed the presence of Fumio Kishida, the Prime Minister of Japan, who discussed the management of artificial intelligence and addressed the challenges associated with it.
