Arvan Cloud, a Server and Cloud Services Provider, Sanctioned by the UK for Alleged Involvement in Iran’s Internet Restriction.
According to IDEA, Arvan Cloud, along with its founder, had previously been sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury earlier this year. Additionally, during the internet disruptions in Iran in 1401 (Persian calendar), the European Union also imposed sanctions on this company.
It is worth noting that Arvan Cloud explicitly stated during an event in Farvardin 1401(April 2022) that it had no role in internet restrictions.
It seems that such sanctions are more a result of Western countries’ lack of information and calculation errors than intelligence. In Iran, according to the laws governing the core layer management and the distribution of the country’s traffic, this layer is exclusively under the control of the government, and private companies like Arvan Cloud are considered service recipients from the government. Therefore, they do not play a role in the government’s restrictive or directive decisions.
Another point about Arvan Cloud is that this company does not engage with the general public, and its services are primarily provided to companies and organizations that offer services in the virtual space.
It’s not just Arvan Cloud
The European Union announced its tenth round of sanctions against four individuals and six entities related to Iran, citing human rights violations. In this new round of EU sanctions, the High Council of Cyberspace is notably mentioned.
The UK Foreign Office, in a statement released last night, included Arvan Cloud, an internet cloud service provider, in its list of sanctions in the new round.
In the new list of sanctions by the United States, which has also placed several wealthy individuals involved in technology and the leading Pajouhan Rayanesh company under sanctions.
In this latest round of sanctions, the European Union has also imposed sanctions on the National Cyberspace Center.
