Hossein Salahvarzi, the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture of Iran, highlighted the importance of alignment and organizational cohesion, especially in the digital economy sector, during a meeting with the members of the executive board of the Computer Guild Organization (NASR). He emphasized investment in digital economy.
According to IDEA, this meeting was held with the presence of Abdullah Mohajer Darabi, a member of the executive board of Iran’s Chamber. Salahvarzi, in his remarks, stated that one of the distinctive features of organizations is their influence on policies and networking, considering members of organizations as their strengths.
He stated, “If the private sector, through its organizations, can influence policies, it will have effectively fulfilled its main duty.”
The President of Iran’s Chamber urged the active players in the digital economy sector and members of the Computer Guild Organization to utilize the capacity of the Consultative Council and the Business Support Committee to advance their goals and plans. Additionally, the Chamber of Commerce has a position and a seat in many councils and can play a role in proposing and following up on various topics.
The Private Sector Must Be Empowered
The President of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, during this meeting, addressed the issue: Throughout the past years, governments and policymakers haven’t been interested in the establishment of organized associations in the country. Although the situation has changed to some extent today, there still exist anti-organizational approaches and perspectives. In this regard, I encourage all statesmen to repeatedly listen to the Leader’s words in a meeting with economic activists in Bahman of the past year. He discussed Iran’s decline in economic growth and emphasized that to overcome this, the private sector must be empowered.
He continued, “The reality is that over time, Iran’s Chamber of Commerce has also undergone transformations. It took a while for Iran’s Chamber to represent the entire private sector and it was previously known merely as a trade center. In the recent two to three terms, Iran’s Chamber has evolved.”
Recent developments regarding platforms contradicted the principle of private ownership
Salahvarzi, stating that wherever alignment has been established, the situation has improved, added: There have been and continue to be resistances regarding the development of new businesses based on technology and the digital economy. Although the conditions are better compared to the past, if we are to raise the level of investment in the country, we must seriously focus on the digital economy alongside creating the necessary infrastructures. Today, this sector is experiencing substantial growth worldwide, with significant capacities that we have yet to explore in Iran.
He continued: “In the international sphere, we are fully prepared and prioritizing the establishment of platforms for all economic sectors to enter global markets is one of the main objectives of Iran’s Chamber during this period. For this purpose, we are in the process of creating specialized task forces in the international sector.”
Human Resource Migration: A Crisis for the Digital Economy
Continuing the session, the members of the executive board of the Computer Guild Organization (NASR) elaborated on the prevailing conditions in the digital economy and their expectations from Iran’s Chamber.
As discussed in this meeting, the country’s foundation in this sector is young, and it possesses rich human capital. However, in recent years, the digital economy has faced challenges due to human resource migration, and the uncertain future of migration rates has had a significant impact.
Another topic brought up in this session that drew attention was the increase in the number of members in the Computer Guild Organization, especially considering that simultaneously with the growth of migration, we are witnessing this increase. This indicates that there is still hope for engaging in this field. Over the past three years, the trend of increasing the number of members has begun.
The members of the executive board of the Computer Guild Organization emphasized the importance of regulatory indicators and highlighted the insistence on utilizing the capital market by digital businesses.
One of the priorities and concerns of the organization was stated as the development of the digital economy in the markets of other countries, especially neighboring countries. It was decided that the necessary infrastructure for this should be provided by Iran’s Chamber. Additionally, the point was made that the digital economy is a part of the active economy of the country and should not be overlooked. Investors need to become more familiar with this sector and step into this domain.
