Simultaneously with the arrival of the days of Arbaeen pilgrimage, the temporary registration of traveler's mobile phones at the entry points of Iraq has been banned. This ban started yesterday, August 15, and will continue until September 16.
According to IDEA, a directive has been issued by the Customs Office regarding the temporary ban on registering traveler’s mobile phones from the borders of Iraq. The notifying authority of this decision is the Ministry of Interior and it has been approved in the 115th central meeting of the Arbaeen Headquarters.
This temporary ban has been implemented since yesterday, August 15, 2023, and will continue until September 16.
In this directive, the customs offices of the country have been asked to inform people about the ban through installing banners and notices at the entry and exit points.
It’s worth mentioning that this is not a new decision, as last year there was also a temporary ban on importing traveler’s phones from Iraq.
It seems that this decision has been made in line with controlling the exchange rate and the mobile phone market. Considering the presence of many Iranians in the Arbaeen ceremony, the entry of traveler’s phones can both request an increase in the exchange rate and flood the mobile phone market with non-guaranteed and non-serviceable phones.
Pilgrims who intend to participate in the Arbaeen walk should be more cautious about their personal information. Last year, in the month of Shahrivar, the spokesperson of the Anti-Smuggling Headquarters had also warned that people should be careful when buying these models of phones, as during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, some profiteers use the personal information of pilgrims to register smuggled phones: Some violators misuse the personal information of pilgrims when they return to the country to purchase SIM cards in their names and register them for smuggled phones. Pilgrims should be vigilant about their personal information.
