CS50 is a course to teach the basics of computer science and familiarity with programming logic and alphabet, which was first presented at Harvard and Yale universities
According to the IDEA, The CS50 course is an Open-License course that allows the whole world to hold the course content in their own language and culture for free under the name CS50x with the extension of the name of the venue, and the participants can also get their degree from Harvard.
Tehran’s CS50x group, which started its activities this summer together with Jahesh Innovation Center, was able to have the record number of programming course students after America.
This course was previously held as CS50x Iran in the country, but the Tehran team added other services to this training and for the first time this course was held for free in the world according to its law.
At the closing ceremony of its summer course, this group presented statistics from this course, which we will discuss further.
The number of registered students of this course in the event and seminar platforms was 30,823, the youngest student was 9 years old and the oldest student was 61 years old. The average age of these people was 22 years, of which 36% were women and 64% were men.
Programming training all over the country
It may be thought that the name “Tehran” at the end of CS50x limits these trainings to the city of Tehran, while programming training was held online and in person, and all 31 provinces of the country participated in this course. Programming enthusiasts from more than 720 cities and villages of Iran received these trainings.
Geographically, Chabahar is the farthest city from the capital, which had 41 registrations in this period. Tehran, Karaj, Isfahan and Mashhad also had the most participants respectively.
These people were trained during 11 6-hour sessions, equivalent to 211 days in total. Also, 26,810 hours, the videos of this course have been replayed on Arvan Cloud.
Programming along with a degree
Many people participated in this course with different degrees, the most participants having a bachelor’s degree and the least having a doctorate degree.
Most of the students were from Azad Islamic University, Amir Kabir University, Sharif University, Technical Vocational University, Khajeh Nasir University, and Science University respectively.
Education to the labor market
The difference between this programming course and other previous courses was that it was not limited to training. At the end of the course, during a hackathon session, some companies such as Zarinpal, Entekhab, etc. presented their challenges and after team building, the students tried to create a real project. Do.
Some also submitted their projects to participate in a competition on the closing day. Out of 75 submitted projects, 26 projects reached the next stage, 7 teams presented their projects on the closing day, and finally one team was chosen as the selected team by the judges. 3 other teams were also invited to negotiate by the investors who were present at the closing ceremony.
On the sidelines of the closing ceremony, there was an exhibition of the human resources department of various companies, which focused on attracting and hiring course students.
